Welcome to Poetic Forms, a community where people who want to learn about and write with traditional poetic forms can do so together. It was created by alenia on May 22, 2003.
To join this community, please send A NOTE(as opposed to writing a devious comment) with the subject "Joining" saying that you want to join and linking any formed poems you may have written already.
Thank you icefaerie and tessuraea for the write-ups on ballads, sestinas, and villanelles. I'd thank myself, but that might be odd. so I just want to say that alenia has written a write up on pantoums.
If you have any good information on any forms such as sonnets, ballades, triolets, rondeaus, roundels, ghazals, limericks, haikus, tankas, rengays, and so on please note me. If you want to do the official write up of a form note me to tell me. The write ups will contain a brief history of the form, perhaps an example (not sure about that) and a full description of the rhyme scheme, meter, common themes, etc. All write ups shall be channeled through this page (i.e. the text should be sent in a note here) and from here it will be submitted as a deviation.
Write-ups in progress:
Form of the Month
June is pantoum month!
A pantoum is a poem comprised of quatrains where the second and fourth line of a stanza become the first and third lines of the next stanza. see the write-up for more information.
This month I'd like it if people made an effort to write pantoums, because this form is my current favorite and is really enjoyable to read and write.
