Welcome to Poetic Forms, a community where people who want to learn about and write with traditional poetic forms can do so together. It was created by alenia on May 22, 2003.
To join this community, please send a NOTE (as opposed to writing a devious comment) with the subject "Joining" saying that you want to join.
No prior experience is needed to join, all that is needed is your interest. We have not denied anyone who asked to join, and we appreciate everyone who joins.
Welcome to Exotic-Kitten & HeIsCome !
poetic-forms has been going through major reconstruction. We now have a bigger staff (which you can join if you want by sending a note to alenia ) and we have been working hard on finding new interactive things to bring the community together in the future. Also, DAv.3 has forced some other changes on us. I want you all to know that we are now alive and well once again! However, the devpacks are down due to the temporary lack of collections on DA v.3. Once they're up, all will be well.
Also, we have a message board! daniela.creative-flow.net/poet… Please join once you are a member of this community. Once it is larger and more active, we will have contests and group projects there, and every member will be able to participate more in the workings of the group. Have fun!
I am considering an idea right now that may bring the community closer together here. A renga is a form of haiku using many different writers in it. Each writer adds a verse (one haiku) or two into the renga until eventually there are 100 verses. I would like to recieve notes (send notes with subject renga to corruptedangel ) from anybody interested and more precise instructions will be given once a reasonable number of applicants has been recieved. Hopefully we will have a wonderful communtiy renga in the end! Thankyou! corruptedangel
If you want to do the official write-up on any forms with a specified rhyme scheme, meter, and/or repetition, please note poetic-forms. If you just have information on the forms but don't want to write it up, send a note as well and we will pass the information on to whoever would like to do the write-up. The write ups will contain a brief history of the form, perhaps an example, and a full description of the rhyme scheme, meter, common themes, etc. All write ups shall be channeled through this page (i.e. the text should be sent in a note here) and from here it will be submitted as a deviation.

Form of the Month
October is the Ghazal month!
A Ghazal is a string of 5-15 couplets, with each couplet being able to stand alone as a complete thought and/or poem. At the end of the second line of every couplet is a 1-3 word long refrain. A rhyming scheme would look like that: AA, BA, CA, DA, and so on. Please see the write-up for more information.

(Somewhere along the line the process of adding member links to the journal faulted. If you are a member and your name isn't on here send a note so we can add you. Thanks. corruptedangel)
